Lions Fire Millen, Still Suck

The guys over at firemillen.com are going to be a lot less busy these days.

The Lions fired Matt Millen today after posting a 31-84 record during his tenure. In comparison to the Plaxico Burress suspension, the Millen firing comes as no surprise at all. I was more surprised when it didn’t happen after they got blown out by the Atlanta Falcons in Week1.

"Megatron"

31-84 doesn’t even sound that bad, I mean, it’s bad, but not that bad. How about this one though, the team was 8-60 on the road during Millen’s stay. That’s atrocious.

While this may get Lion’s fans excited this week, there’s still 13 more games they’re going to have to suffer through.  Sure, you have Calvin Johnson (aka Megatron) looking like a bona fide superstar - but there’s not a whole lot of talent on the other side of the ball.

Their team is still gonna suck this year, so in a couple weeks when the boos fire up again it would be wise if the Lions came out said “We are not going to draft a receiver in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft.”  That should hold them over for at least another week.

With talented corners like Malcom Jenkins (Ohio State) and Vontae Davis (Illinois) likely available where they’ll be drafting (it’s going to be in the top 5) they had better not draft a receiver.

Looks like all that scouting Millen had done on Texas Tech WR Michael Crabtree is going to waste.
